What is camera ready?
"Camera ready" refers to art and copy that is ready to be transferred to film without any retouching. Retouching includes art that has to be retraced, redrawn or reworked on the computer, or by an artist.
Computer generated art:
We are utilizing state of the art Macintosh computer systems, running the most up to date professional applications. Color scanning and printing allows for faster and more efficient artwork preparation. Art can be accepted on high density computer disks, Syquest 44mb disks, or via modem.
Can I send a laser print as artwork?
Small imperfections always occur in laser printing. To assure a clean image, the artwork must be printed out 200% larger than the imprint size on a 600 DPI (dots per inch) or higher laser printer. A 200% enlargement of a copier is not acceptable. If the laser printer does not print at a minimum of 600 DPI, your art will print saw toothed of with jagged edges.
Image quality:
Artwork will degenerate slightly at each step in the production process. Original art is reproduced using a specialized camera or a high resolution computer scanner, a film is them made; a screen or plate is produced; and finally the art is imprinted onto a product.
Our experience:
Any imperfection in the artwork will be accentuated at each step of the production process, especially on the final step (product printing). Experienced imprinters can determine how the finished product will look, with whatever art is supplied. Our ultimate goal at KSM Promotions is to ensure the cleanest, sharpest imprint and it all starts with the cleanest sharpest input.
What about multiple colors?
You can avoid an art charge if multi-color art is color separated. If this art is submitted as one piece, it is necessary for an artist to separate the colors manually or computer scan the image for separations. There should be a separate piece of black and white camera ready art for each color.
